Jobbik municipal: „are we going to dare to shoot a rotten, stinking Jew?”
The Jerusalem Post pulished last year about an incident, when in August, the leading Hungarian weekly Hetek sent reporters to cover a right-wing rally and musical festival in the city of Veroce. The reporters were welcomed at the gate with horse-whips. Organizers spewed lethal threats at the “filthy liberal” journalists, and assigned “escorts” to harass and prevent them from covering the event. The story continued, the perspective is worse.
This year again for the 11th time the extreme right held a festival called the “Hungarian Sziget” ir „Hungarian Island”, where both the far right Hungarian parliament party Jobbik and the extreme „Army of Outlaws” were lecturing about „guerilla war” – learned the leading Hungarian news portal, atv.hu.
This year, Zsolt Tyirityan, the leader of the Army of Outlaws had introduced a Balkan war veteran on the Hungarian Island, Zsolt Der, who confessed, when “the fights headed to Bosnia, he was not fighting for the Hungarians, he was fighting for his hunger to kill, and for this he deserves an applause”. Mr. Tyirityan said, the guerilla war is the only form of fighting that “was never defeated, never destroyed, never annihilated” – and he thinks a fight can be effective only “if the man fights with his mind and life working together, if he has no doubts: only then he can kill”.
„We will prefer our own race”
He also said the guerilla tactic’s main goal is to “slowly grind the enemy and not to force only one strike. We have to be very disciplined and well prepared, and we have to be organized very seriously.” For the organization of the army he referred to Michael Collins, who believes in the theory of 12 apostles: 12 single, young and devoted person can successfully lead an organization like this. He also claims: “we need people, who eliminated their lives in a certain level, because they are either going to be imprisoned in a short time or will be shot by the TEK (The Hungarian Anti-Terror Unit –ed.), or the third possibility is when we win at the end.” Mr. Tyirityan believes, those who “remove the face of the consumer society and laziness will have a chance to become a self sacrificing martyr or freedom fighter”. He also said that within years, when the Hungarian society will see 3 million hungry gypsies and 3 million hungry retired old people, they will prefer their own race and try to protect them within these self defense groups.

Mr. Tyirityan did not hesitate to talk about the Jews either, when he asked the campers: “When the Israelis are going to come here with their Merkava tanks and stealth bombers, will they have the moral question to shoot our homes or not?” The Outlaw Army leader answered the question to himself: “I am sure they will not hesitate. And are we going to dare to shoot a rotten, stinking Jew then?” In this moment the audience shouted that “we will” and broke out in applause.
Utoya: „I will not bring flowers to the graves”
Toroczkai Laszlo, one of the municipals of Jobbik the far right wing parliament party in Hungary also lectured on the extremist Hungarian Sziget and assured everyone that Jobbik and his strategic ally – the Outlaw Army - has a very good cooperation. Toroczkai Laszlo, the municipal representative of Jobbik, Sandor Porzse and Daniel Karpat MP’s of the far right Jobbik analyzed – sitting at the same table – the current political situation in Hungarian Sziget.
For example, in connection to the massacre of Utoya of Norway, Toroczkai stated, that he thinks the tragedy is the political elite’s responsibility, and even though he condemns the incident, he will not bring flowers to the graves. “I know it sound like I am not human, but this is what I am.” – he added.
If the former prime minister had been shot…
Toroczkai also said that “even here on the Hungarian Sziget we say many times, I would shoot Gyurcsany (former PM – ed.) or even Viktor Orban (current PM – ed.) these days.” He also stated: “We have had an even greater favor for Hungarians, if the former prime minister had been shot when he was a teenager.” Again, the audience rewarded the representative with applause.

In August, 2010 the leading Hungarian weekly Hetek sent reporters to cover a right-wing rally and musical festival in the city of Veroce. The reporters were welcomed at the gate with horse-whips. Organizers spewed lethal threats at the “filthy liberal” journalists, and assigned “escorts” to harass and prevent them from covering the event.
Last year, journalists received similar treatment at the annual ultra-national gathering, and were even forced to wear vests matted with dog feces. Masked men greeted them with mock guns and swords, shouting in German: “Deine papieren, Jude!” (“Your papers, Jew!”).
Hetek’s ordeal reflects the recent dramatic turn in Hungary toward neo- Fascism, dating to a spate of fierce anti-government riots in 2006. There were anti-Semitic and racist manifestations before, such as vandalizing cemeteries. However, since 2006 the neo-Nazi movement has become bolder and more aggressive, carrying out violent and sometimes deadly attacks against Gypsies and Jews, stoning synagogues and homes of rabbis during Passover, and staging paramilitary marches across the country to intimidate the local population.
One of the main engines of the far- Right movement has been the emergence of the Jobbik party, which won three seats in the European Parliament in 2009 and garnered 17% of the votes in Hungary’s general elections. Jobbik party leader Gábor Vona described his faction’s campaign last year as “a fight of a Palestinian with a sling against an Israeli attack helicopter.”
His party’s main message was “Hungary is only for Hungarians.” This year, he has popularized the battle against “Gypsy criminals,” urging that they be stripped of their Hungarian citizenship and corralled into “special camps.” Since many elements of Hungarian society are receptive to such anti-Gypsy and anti- Semitic rantings, they have become an effective political platform for Jobbik.
“Israeli occupation” is another popular slogan in Jobbik’s abridged dictionary. Post-communist Hungarian society is still receptive to Soviet-era portrayals of the Jewish state as an evil outpost of Western imperialism. Vona has repeatedly pledged that if his party gains power, it will foil the “plans of the Jews to buy property.”
At a recent Jobbik rally held in front of the private residence of Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai, chairman Vona insisted that since 2004 there has been a “Hungarian holocaust.” He railed that “foreigners… are waiting to repossess our houses, our cars. Some people already have called for a tender to liquidate Hungary.” By “foreigners,” he explained that he meant “Israeli buyers.”
During the same political rally, Krisztina Morvai, a Jobbik member of the European Parliament and one-time presidential candidate, said she had received a lot of encouragement during a recent Palestinian conference “in line with the expression of Christian love….I have met many Palestinian people, many fine fighters, Hamas members, Hizbullah leaders, who have encouraged me much.”
Levente Murányi, deputy chairman of Jobbik, told a local community forum that a new ban on Holocaust denial was a “muzzle law,” adding: “It is astonishing with what impertinence people claim there is anti-Semitism here. Well, there isn’t yet, but there is a need for it.”
When a journalist asked him, “So, you are a Nazi?” he proudly accepted the tag. “A Nazi, a fascist, an anti-Semite, if that is what is necessary to represent the true Hungarian interests.”
Lóránt Hegedus, a Calvinist clergyman known for his racist outbursts, has also claimed that the Israeli Mossad is receiving help from the Hungarian state apparatus to not only maintain its “apartheid system” at home, but to facilitate a conquest of Hungary led by Shimon Peres. He told a Jobbik rally that Hungarian churches are at the forefront of these plots, together with the “high priests” of the Alliance of Hungarian Jewish Communities.
“Rubbing their hands like Caiaphas,” he charged, they “try to silence those who think differently to guard the dignity of the victims of the Holocaust, at the same time insulting today’s victims… justifying the unjustifiable: the genocide in Gaza committed by the Israeli army.”
Meanwhile, the far-Right paramilitary group the “Hungarian Guard” was established in 2007 with 56 members led by Vona, who now heads the Jobbik party. Today, it has been through a split and is banned by the courts, but remains active. The militia changed its name and uniform, but its mission and spirit are the same. Their now-banned uniform carried the Arpad stripe, also used by the pro- Nazi Arrow Cross party which murdered thousands and assisted in Nazi deportations during the Second World War. Members of this Guard are extremely anti-Gypsy and anti-Semitic.
Hungarian Guard regional captain Andras Draskovics said he believes the world is ruled by Jews. According to him: “the Jews only need two billion people; the other four billion are not needed.” The rest – as he put it – will be “sprayed on.” He also claims that descriptions of Auschwitz and Buchenwald are not true.
Mátyás Dósa, captain of the new spinoff militia “Hungarian Guard Keepers Movement,” organized a Holocaustdenial march in 2009 into the castle of Buda one day before the March of the Living in Budapest. As marshall of the protest march, he declared the Holocaust a myth and lauded his march as a “struggle against Zionist world domination.”
Jobbik backs this extremist subculture, supporting the Hungarian Guard and making pre-election deals with numerous other radical organizations. One Jobbik lawmaker conceived the now-infamous “Hungarian Island,” where national heritage competitions are held, lectures deprive the historical Jesus of his Jewish identity, and propaganda is distributed concerning the Jewish world conspiracy. Numerous events on Hungarian Island have inspired violent escapades against the local Roma population and the media. One festival this year featured a parade of skinhead and racist bands, openly anti-Semitic lecturers, and even a neo- Fascist Italian politician, Roberto Fiore, who was once convicted on terrorism charges back in Italy.
This xenophobic subculture has also spawned its own extremist media. Barikád, Jobbik’s main newspaper, is famous for its nostalgic longing for the Nazi era. The weekly promotes both classical and modern anti-Semitic motifs. The cover of a March issue depicted Bishop Gellért, who is remembered for Christianizing Hungary in the 10th century with a huge statue on a hill overlooking central Budapest. He was shown holding a menorah in his hand instead of a cross, with the caption: “Wake up Budapest! Is this what you want?” The issue went on to decry the “Jewish occupation” of Budapest, claiming an on-going land grab by Israelis.
In addition, there are many neo-Nazi Web portals where authors spread the most extreme hate speech, ranging from traditional blood libels to the whole range of modern anti-Semitic tirades.
Jobbik has played a major role in promoting the most extreme anti-Semitism and racism in Hungary since the collapse of Nazism. However, its success is fueled by the receptiveness of some in Hungarian society on the one hand, and the indifference of others. Hungary must put more effort into education to combat this phenomena, as a recent study found that only 2% of Hungarians have any in-depth knowledge about the Holocaust.
Hungary also has to back the nongovernmental organizations fighting racism and anti-Semitism. There are only a few NGOs who really care about the worsening situation. One is Faith Church, whose senior Pastor Sandor Nemeth gives weekly lectures on television and in print setting out a moral, tolerant Christian viewpoint. In 2009, both the World Jewish Congress and the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus honored Nemeth for his constant fight against anti-Semitism in Hungary.The Jerusalem Post

Jobbik MP greeted journalists with horsewhip It was the tenth time the summer camp for “youth of national calling” at Verőce took place; initially it was meant to counter the famous Pepsi Sziget Festival (Hungarian Woodstock) held in August in Budapest. With the strengthening of the Hungarian paramilitary, extremist organizations, movements in recent years, visitors to Magyar Sziget have also significantly increased. Thus they already refer to the event as the pan-Hungarian gathering of the “National Radical Movement,” where national heritage competitions (archery, animal trailing, runic script, cuisine of the Huns, etc.), family and children’s programs are featured alongside lectures depriving the historical Jesus of his Jewish identity, and information on the Jewish world conspiracy. They experiment with banned symbols, uniforms, lyrics, banners, and signs activity that is outright illegal at present. What makes the meeting all interesting this year is the fact that the organizers are backed by a political party, Jobbik, which has 17% support in Parliament. The reporters of our newsmagazine informed the press secretary of Hatvannégy Vármegye Ifjúsági Mozgalom, HVIM, the “64 Counties (of pre World-War-One-Hungary) Youth Movement” of their arrival to obtain the necessary approval as journalists. “It won’t be a problem, you can come anytime, if you buy the entrance ticket, you can stay on until evening; if not, you can see the camp with our escort,” the spokesman said. Well, it almost happened that way. Upon arrival they paid the 5600 forint (20 EUR) entrance fee, but were not allowed to move about freely on the campgrounds. They were introduced to a certain Béla who accompanied them closely and informed them: “You can only take pictures of what I allow, or we will delete all the pictures. Interviews can only be made with previously approved persons and previously approved questions, and you are not allowed to switch on your recording equipment until I say so.” After a few – pre-approved – photographs, they continued their tour to a stage called “King Attila”. Laszlo Tompo Jr. was speaking in the tent about “Jewish Media Policy in Hungary.” Extracts: “The Jew is a master at lying… The Jew is the classical demon of corruption… The Jew is most dangerous when he claims to be a Christian… The Jew can use the atom bomb, but he can only use it for evil… The world of Jewish media goads people first into stealing chickens, then unto higher level crime.” And so on. The lecturer claimed that the first medical university also served the interests of the Jewish lobby, by allowing the Jews to use medicine to try and corrupt our bodies after they had corrupted our language. At the end of his lecture, Mr. Tompo called for the complete boycott of the “Jewish press,” which was greeted by massive applause. Journalists of Hetek wanted to interview the literary historian, but he refused the request. So they could not ask how the orator to justify his linguistic claims, namely “There are no words for love and science in the Hebrew language, only worlds which belong to the category of criminology.” However, our colleagues enriched their vocabulary with a new word, Jewolics (zsidolikus in Hungarian), for Catholics who forbid the use of the “Arpad flag”, the historical red-white stripes paraded by neo-Fascists. During the lecture one of the correspondents from Hetek started a conversation with their young escort. “I am not an anti-Semite, but an a-Semite. This means a world without Jews, a Hungarian society free of Jews. Why is this important? Because the media are influenced by the Jewish lies, distortions, and continually publish false articles about the national-radical side,” Béla explained. The journalists soon learned that they could interview György Gyula Zagyva, a Jobbik MP, the Chairman of HVIM, and manager of the camp. Instead of an open-air meeting on the spot, the questions had to be asked in a secluded hut, behind closed doors. In the barracks – with a skull over the entrance – MP Zagyva reclined on a bed, and held a horse whip in his hand which he kept swinging around while talking, so the journalists could not tell whether he would strike or was just threatening. Béla pulled the door shut with the help of his buddy, as the atmosphere I the room noticeably changed. “Are you really surprised? You should be glad they didn’t beat you up!” the elected Jobbik politician began, after being asked why all this control was imposed. His colleague added, “Who allowed you to turn on your voice recorder? I see you can’t hide your Jewish disrespect!” They made it clear that the two reporters had wandered onto enemy territory, where democracy ended, and they could be treated at will. “We could pull your pants off and f*** you, no one would believe you if you ever got out of here,” György Gyula Zagyva told them. Then he went on to explain how they humiliated the reporters of TV2, who had their clothes smeared with feces and urine. He mentioned another journalist, who lost a tooth after he dared to talk back. “And we taught ‘Index’ (independent website) a lesson” for several articles which criticized the “national radical front.” They write less about the topic since then… The Jobbik MP then went on to share his feelings concerning our colleagues, “If I could only seize you and kick your guts out!” Whenever Jewish topics were raised, he cracked his whip in the direction of one of the journalists, but the braided leather did not hit. From this point on the Hetek reporters felt directly threatened in their physical safety. “Don’t you realize there’s a war going on? And it will only escalate! There are enemy front lines drawn up and you have just stepped over the line. I think it’s best if I just tear you apart right here!” Zagyva went at them again. Suddenly he had an idea to take the journalists over to the part within the camp where the Székely (Hungarians living in Transsylvania) had their tents, where he would disclose their identity, and although he would try to protect them from the enraged brothers, he would not be able guarantee their safety. Just then, since the bathroom of the hut was used as a public toilet, someone knocked, and a burly man entered the room. “What would you do to someone who sincerely claimed to be a Jew?” Zagyva asked him. The man put on a scornful grin and explained that after butchering the person, he would let him out to the fresh air through the chimney. Our reporters tried to stay calm and went on to ask further questions. Consequently they found out that the visitors include a large number of families with children, and that ‘Magyar Sziget’ had attracted return-visitors by the thousands in the past years. The organizers continued to disapprove of the leftist liberal press labeling them anti-Semitic, despite the fact that they clamed to give hardly have any lectures relating to Jewish topics. Meanwhile they repeatedly insulted the journalists of Hetek and threatened to kill the Editor in Chief of the newsmagazine. The nearly 45-minute-long interrogation ended only after the Hetek journalists agreed to visit another location within the camp, where a lecture on cults called “The Secret War – The Battle of the Traditionalists with the Forces of Corruption” was held. They explained that the lecture would deal with Scientology and Faith Church (Hit Gyülekezete), and Béla made sure the reporters understood they should be looking for him, otherwise they could easily end up being mugged. Out in the open a few pictures could be taken of the group wearing traditional costumes from the Vas region, but taking pictures of the military training a of a militia called Véderő (Defence Force) was forbidden. As he was saying goodbye, Béla told them they would beat the shit out of the journalists if they had recorded anything that was said in the wooden hut. However, they never checked what was recorded.

Jobbik is an extremist and populist right-wing Hungarian party that won 47 seats in the 2010 Hungarian general elections. They also hold 3 seats in the European Parliament (EP) in which they cooperate with well known "neo-nazi" and "skinhead" parties, such as the BNP, Italy’s Fiamma Tricolore, the Belgian National Front and the SND. Jobbik uses the old Nazi rhetoric "Hungary only for Hungarians," while spreading a message of anti-Semitism as well as anti-Gypsy, homophobic and xenophobic attitudes.
